Cleansing And Care Of Acne Prone Skin

In developing Eucerin® Acne Prone Skin, Eucerin Skin Research paid special attention to the causes of acne (overproduction of sebum, clogged pores and bacteria). They identified skin's own Lactic Acid as a key ingredient to fight blemishes because of its antibacterial properties and keratolytic effects (normal peeling or shedding of skin cells). Unlike other keratolytic agents, such as salicylic acid or propylene glycol, Lactic Acid is a natural component of the hydrolipid film and one of the main substances of the skin's protective acid mantle. In addition, lactic acid is a natural moisturizing factor (NMF) of the skin which increases the water binding capacity of the horny layer.

With the help of the physiologically effective Follicle Targeting System, Lactic Acid penetrates directly into the follicle where blemishes originate and opens the congested duct of the sebaceous gland (the clogged pore). The specially developed emulsion base allows delivery of Lactic Acid directly into the follicle where it exerts its comedolytic and antibacterial effect. The keratolytic Lactic Acid softens the thickened stratum corneum around the follicle and promotes penetration of other active ingredients into the follicle.

Care of acne prone skin is particularly important during and after pharmacological anti-acne treatment which can dry out the skin. Eucerin® Acne Prone Skin products are compatible with all common acne preparations (benzoyl peroxide, azalaic acid, tretinoin, isotretinoin, minocycline, erythromycin). They are also excellent as adjunctive care to hormonal anti-acne treatment (e.g. the Pill).
